Kick-Start the school year for a child like Elijah*
Ten-year-old Elijah is excited to start year 5 this term. But back-to-school is a stressful time for his mum, Bernadette*.
Raising four children alone through the cost-of-living crisis, Bernadette is struggling to make ends meet.
Despite trying her hardest, she can’t provide the essentials Elijah* and his siblings need for school.
“I’m constantly worrying I won’t be able to keep up with bills, or that we might lose our accommodation.
I just want my children to feel equal and valued at school, and to have the right equipment and supplies.”
Thanks to our generous donors and hard-working volunteer members, Elijah will be able to start the school year with a new uniform, all the necessary stationery, and a new pair of shoes.

* All donations up to $5,000 made to St Vincent de Paul Society QLD's 'Kick-Start for Queensland Kids' appeal will be matched dollar for dollar by an anonymous, generous supporter, up to the value of $100,000 from now until the matching pool is exhausted. For your donation to be matched, your gift must be made via the 'Kick-Start for Queensland Kids' website or by talking to one of our supporter care representatives on 13 18 12.
* Many people coming to Vinnies QLD have never had to ask for help before and can feel embarrassed that they need to. That's why we change people's name and details - to protect their identity and uphold their dignity.
*Funds raised through the St Vincent de Paul Society QLD (Vinnies QLD) Kick-Start for Queensland Kids Appeal will be used to fund our Children's Education Fund program including supporting families struggling with essential education and schooling expenses such as uniforms, shoes, books, reading materials, technology, and other vital educational experiences for learning and development.
