Katrina, faced cancer while living in a car. It shouldn't happen.

When Katrina* was diagnosed with breast cancer, she should have been focused on getting well. Instead, she and her husband were sleeping in their car, wondering where they would spend the next night.
At 63 years old, Katrina was facing two devastating realities at once: serious illness and homelessness. Without a safe place to live, the treatment she urgently needed remained out of reach.
Every day brought uncertainty. Every night brought fear, exhaustion and stress. As her health concerns grew, so did the challenge of finding somewhere secure to stay. Like many older women experiencing homelessness, Katrina's situation was largely hidden from view, but the impact on her wellbeing was profound.
Everything changed when Katrina was connected with a Vinnies-run accommodation service in Perth. For the first time in a long time, she had a safe place to rest, support from people who genuinely cared, and the stability she needed to focus on her health. With secure accommodation and compassionate care, Katrina was finally able to begin treatment and complete chemotherapy.
Today, she is rebuilding her life with renewed confidence and hope for the future. Looking back, Katrina says, "Not only do we feel safe, but we feel respected."
Her story is a powerful reminder that a safe place to stay provides more than shelter. It restores dignity, stability and the chance to move forward.
Your donation now can help someone like Katrina, facing a crisis find the help they urgently need.
