Linda worried constantly about how to provide for her young grandchildren during this cost-of-living crisis.
Linda’s daughter, a single mother, faced severe personal and health challenges.
This left Linda becoming the main carer for her two young grandchildren Evie and Jack. Although Linda’s days were filled with joy and laughter from Evie and Jack, her income from the pension was stretched thin trying to provide for them.
The cost of rent, utilities, food and medication made it a huge struggle to make ends meet and provide for them.
But Linda got the hand up she needed. Fred's Van food service has been a lifeline for Linda and her grandchildren.
At first, they were hesitant to line up, but the warm and friendly Vinnies team members made them feel welcome.
Every time Linda visited the Fred's Van food service with Evie and Jack, she felt very grateful for the nutritious meals and support received to help her care for her grandchildren.
Linda is not the only one doing it tough. There are so many who can’t afford their rent or mortgage because of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, so they go without food. Many are facing homelessness and some are sleeping rough on the street.
Our Fred's Van food service, crisis accomodation and other homelessness services and programs give people a place to go for meals, warmth, comfort, company and dignity.
